I have a few writing projects in the works at the moment....one is something I've started to type on here and have saved, but not published....
Another is a project I don't think I'll be able to publish anywhere for the next twenty years or so because of the fact that I talk about specific events, places and people. It's a pretty "sedarian" look at my job pretty much.
I think about something I read by J. K. Rowling back when I was obsessed with Harry Potter a lot.
It was about how she felt the best way to get something written was to write it out in longhand on yellow legal pads etc.
And part of me always just kinda took that as being the best way to do it....because someone who had written what could be considered a masterpiece had said so. I mean writing seven books, whilst keeping your story straight on all the characters, and telling a unified story across those seven books...thats no small feat obviously, even if the books hadn't had the commercial success they did. Hell..I can't even write a unified short story, or haiku for that matter.
But maybe thats not the only way. Maybe thats just what works for her. I think we have to remind ourselves when we're trying to be writers that just like we need to find our own voice as a writer, we also have to find our own style to get it done. People can give you tips and tricks til the cows come home, but at the end of the day...you need to know whats right for you and you need to find it out for yourself. Otherwise I feel like you'll find yourself not just copying that persons style...but writing in a voice thats a hodge podge of yours and theirs too.
Maybe thats my problem? I don't really know. My hands also get tired way too easily and my mind is too nomadic.
I need to start keeping a writing notebook again as well...and maybe even reinforcing it by copying the pages into here at night. I realized this about a week and a half ago at my boyfriends hockey game. I was watching him put his hair back into a pony tail and thought to myself how I would describe him as wearing it "sumo-wrestler style" or something along those lines if I were to write a story or character study of him...well the actual thought I had there and then was great...but in the grand depths of my bag...I didn't even have a receipt to write on...nevermind a pen with which to write it. soo...I went to store 24 and got a notebook, but that notebook has yet to meet my bag...The two will be getting aquainted very soon.
